As our skin ages we gradually begin to lose some of its collagen and fat.  These are what prevent our skin from sagging.  As we get older our skin becomes more wrinkled and more lines appear than we want and sometimes the signs of ageing just need a little helping hand.  Dermal fillers such as Restylane® and Juvederm® Ultra can refresh looks naturally by giving back some of that lost volume and help plump it up to make it look firmer and more youthful. 

 

Nicknamed “The key to the fountain of youth” Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a component of connective tissue whose function is to cushion and lubricate.  HA is a naturally occurring substance in the body that has been used widely in general practice.  It is more compatible with our bodies and so therefore is less likely to have an allergy to it and a test prior to use is not required.

 

 

What To Expect

During your initial consultation we will discuss what your expectations are from treatment and realistic goals.  We will take a medical history and you will be told if you are a good candidate for treatment.  The medical history will involve reading a detailed information sheet and a signed consent form to make sure you have thoroughly understood what the treatment will involve and potential side effects.  Also discussed will be what filler we will use and the treatment cost.

On your initial visit after consultation you may decide to go ahead with the treatment there and then however if not we will reschedule a 2nd appointment for an alternative day.

In the comfort of your chosen clinic/home the area treated will be numbed with a local anaesthetic 20 min prior to treatment.  This is to ensure minimal discomfort. Juvederm Ultra® has the added bonus of lidocaine which is an anaesthetic within the product.  We will decide which product is best suited to use on your lines and wrinkles. Treatment usually takes between 30 min to 1 hour. Post treatment checklist will be discussed.

 

 

Follow Up

Depending on the area treated touch ups are sometimes 1-2 weeks after initial treatment for optimal results and top ups required to maintain the effects.  Extra syringes are charged as per price list.  By using less of a filler than is needed to fill out lines and wrinkles will generally create a less desirable and long lasting effect than opting for a more expensive treatment requiring more syringes. 

How Long Does It Last/Side Effects

Results from Restylane® and Juvederm® Ultra are seen immediately as the volume of the gel helps to improve wrinkles and lines. Results will last in the lips anywhere from 3 to 6 months, and on other parts of the face for 6 to 9 months. Juvederm Ultra last for up to 12 months.  As with any injectable certain risks of side effects are present which generally include swelling, possible bruising, tenderness and some mild redness for a few hours to a week. Products are non-permanent.
